I have some good news to share, which is a nice change from my usual worries or complaints! First, C was able to start OT and PT last week, so will get a month of services in before the summer. He seems to enjoy them both, so he is only a bit bothered that I have [...] After some advice from a reader, we’ve decided to pursue starting OT and PT now rather than wait until next year. We had been hoping C could start over the summer, but found out at the last moment that they only offer those services to kids who qualified for special education. So, we have already found [...] Well, I turned down the job offer. Perhaps if it were closer and paid better, I would have tried to make it work. Right now, though, I feel much more comfortable staying home another year. I’d rather have Z in preschool part-time and have time to pursue some classes myself. Also, I have no idea how [...] A lot can happen in a week. First, I got invited to an interview at my first choice graduate school. I’m very excited and also terribly nervous. I have a bit less than two weeks to prep for the interview. I’m not even sure exactly what prepping I should do, but have already started to pick [...] Time is just flying by and now C’s additional testing with our public school district is just days away and I still haven’t mentioned it to him. I will have to this weekend, but still am uncertain how I will approach it. I’m not sure whether I should be honest and tell him that it’s likely [...] Perhaps not surprisingly, it’s been a bit hectic lately between Z’s speech therapy and C’s occupational therapy. The good news is that both seem to be going well. Z is coming up to his two month mark with Early Intervention and has been going to private therapy for four months now to work on his phonological [...] C goes back to school tomorrow after a long winter break at home. I thought he’d be excited to go back to school, but was saddened to discover that he’s not looking forward to it at all. He’s had issues maintaining friendships this year and I think he’s starting to feel alienated. He had been happy [...] A lot of the issues C’s had at school this year, like not being adequately challenged, have not been a surprise. We were surprised, however, by some social and behavioral issues that came up. While his school said they would pursue an OT evaluation for him, nothing has happened in the 6 weeks since. It turns [...] This new school year has been an adjustment for C. It’s a new school, with a school day twice as long, full of new people and new routines. While he had few social or behavioral problems last year in kindergarten, this year has been different. The guidance counselor offered to add C to her social skills [...] |
