Things have been pretty up in the air lately, which is not a feeling I enjoy. I like having a plan and following that plan! Adjusting a plan is ok, since that would lead to a new plan. It’s the lack of a plan that makes me uncomfortable, though I think I may be getting somewhat [...] Last week Carnegie Mellon announced their C-MITES weekend workshops in Lower Merion. C and a friend are both attending for the first time, though different classes. C will be newly 6 and hopefully not too much younger than the other kids. It will be his first experience with a group of other children like himself, even [...] A lot can happen in a week. First, I got invited to an interview at my first choice graduate school. I’m very excited and also terribly nervous. I have a bit less than two weeks to prep for the interview. I’m not even sure exactly what prepping I should do, but have already started to pick [...] I did finally talk to C last weekend about the testing. I was quite surprised that he had no questions at all. I told him he’d be going back to the same school where he did some tests before to do two more math and reading tests and he just accepted it. This is really out [...] Time is just flying by and now C’s additional testing with our public school district is just days away and I still haven’t mentioned it to him. I will have to this weekend, but still am uncertain how I will approach it. I’m not sure whether I should be honest and tell him that it’s likely [...] Last month, I got called a pushy parent by C’s school. I’m not too surprised about that, because I’ve spent months going back and forth with them about getting accommodations for C. This is despite the fact that I let them know about his needs when we applied last year and again over the summer before [...] Despite my best intentions, I missed the NAGC’s webinar tonight on the power of advocacy. I’m hoping they’ll put the recorded session online soon, since I need all the help I can get. At the moment we appear to be headed to mediation with our school district over the GIEP they hastily pieced together for C [...] I finally took the GRE yesterday and am one step closer to going back to school. I’m so glad that I’m done with that test! I’ve spent a huge amount of time over the past few weeks studying vocabulary and taking practice tests. I definitely recommend taking the practice tests on the computer (ETS puts out [...] This week has been crazy. I’ve been dealing with insurance issues for Z’s speech therapy, met with C’s school and had a GIEP meeting with our district. Below is a revised summary based on my post on Davidson’s.
