It’s been hard to stay positive the past couple of weeks. While I was thrilled to be one of the select few applicants to get an interview with my first choice graduate school, the interview itself was extremely disappointing. I was scheduled for an hour with the department head, but she rushed out after half the [...] It was back in October when C’s school agreed to let him use EPGY there. However, many weeks went by without anything happening. I casually asked about it at one point and they said they were waiting to hear how it was going at home. I explained it was going fine and so I thought they [...] This new school year has been an adjustment for C. It’s a new school, with a school day twice as long, full of new people and new routines. While he had few social or behavioral problems last year in kindergarten, this year has been different. The guidance counselor offered to add C to her social skills [...] Although we’ve met with C’s school a couple times this school year to discuss accommodations, we had our first true parent conference this week. It was interesting to talk to his teacher and see his portfolio work. His teacher brought up that she’s still deciding how to properly evaluate C, since he’s a younger student. The [...] This week has been crazy. I’ve been dealing with insurance issues for Z’s speech therapy, met with C’s school and had a GIEP meeting with our district. Below is a revised summary based on my post on Davidson’s. We met with C’s private school on Monday and then had a GIEP meeting with our district today. District officials [...] I wish I could exercise and blog at the same time! Those are two things often left until the end of the day and it would be superb if I could somehow accomplish them both every night. At one point my husband had rigged up the exercise bike with a makeshift laptop stand, but I seem [...] At C’s school they pair up first graders with older students for buddy activities. Today, C and his buddy read together. He was supposed to bring in his favorite book for the activity. While last week at school he wrote that the Secrets of Droon series was his favorite, he didn’t want to take a Droon [...] I’ve been offline the past few days, going back and forth with C’s new school. It hasn’t been very encouraging. It seems like whenever I push for him to get higher level work, they respond by talking about putting him back in kindergarten due to social, physical, or whatever reasons. The latest is that they’re saying [...] C finished his third day of school today with no major problems. Hurray! He seems to be adjusting well to his new school and new routine. He’s had some minor complaints about not learning much and about not having much play time. He told me today that they went over vowels, but that he didn’t mind [...] |
