This site has a lot of useful information, so you may need to browse around a bit to find what you’re looking for. There is so much information compiled that you may run across some out-dated information and links from time to time. It’s a great resource on everything gifted. If you’re just starting to research gifted education, check out this site first!
Davidson Institute for Talent Development
Contains many resources, including articles and their Gifted Issues Discussion Forum. While their school (Davidson Academy) and other programs are open only to profoundly gifted students, their other resources would be valuable to anyone. For students who do meet their qualifications, they offer the Davidson Young Scholars program, Davidson Fellows scholarships, and a summer program for students ages 13-16.
Pennsylvania Department of Education Gifted Education
This is where you can find Pennsylvania’s guidelines for gifted education, which fall under special education in PA Code Chapter 16. Here you can find the Chapter 16 regulations about which students qualify and what responsibilities the school district has. They also have form letters you can use to request an evaluation or re-evaluation, plus information about due process and mediation (see the Parent Guide).
Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted
This site has information about the emotional needs of gifted children and adults. They have workshops and webinars for reasonable fees, plus articles and audio recordings of featured speakers for free.
Carnegie Mellon Institute for Talented Elementary and Secondary Students
Weekend workshops and summer programs for elementary and middle school students held at various locations in Pennsylvania.
Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth
Offers summer programs and online courses, along with evaluations, consultations and talent search testing.
Summer Institute for the Gifted
Summer residential (grades 4-11) and day programs (grades k-6) for gifted students offered in a number of states. They also offer workshops for parents, teachers and administrators.
National Society for the Gifted & Talented
Organization supporting gifted and talented education. They offer small scholarships for gifted students and have an online resource area with links to some articles. They also offer webinars to parents and professionals.
American Mensa Resources for Gifted Children
This page of the American Mensa site includes links to many gifted resources, including schools, scholarships and grants. They also have a rather long booklist for parents, though don’t provide summaries or recommendations, just title and author.
MIT Educational Studies Program
Offers a variety of weekend classes to students in grades 7-12. The classes are taught by volunteers, usually MIT students or community members. Financial Aid is available.
The American Association for Gifted Children (AAGC)
Contains articles and abstracts related to gifted children.
National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)
Offers a variety of information to parents, teachers and administrators, including their popular Webinars on Wednesday series.
The Belin-Blank Center at the University of Iowa
Offers many resources for gifted students and educators, including talent searches, conferences, weekend and summer programs, webinars and more.
Center for Gifted Education at The College of William and Mary
Develops specialized curriculum for gifted students, provides professional development for educators, plus Saturday and Summer enrichment programs for students in grades k-9.
Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University
Offers talent searches plus summer, weekend and online programs for gifted students. Their summer and Saturday programs accept preK students!
Duke University Talent Identification Program
Offers a talent search for4th/5th and 7th grades, a residential summer program for students in grades 7-10, weekend classes for grades 8-11, independent learning programs for grades 4-12, and online classes for grades 8-12.
Provides testings, consulting, books and other materials, including a variety of articles about visual-spatial learners.
Along with their Gifted Child Information Blog, Prufrock offers books, journals and magazines, all centered around gifted and advanced learners.
