It’s been a while since I posted about C’s little brother Z. Back in June we had early intervention evaluate him for an expressive language delay. He didn’t qualify for services and has been making some progress, but it’s quite slow. He’ll be 2 years old next month and still doesn’t string multiple words together. Most [...] The registration for the next free NAGC webinar is online. Check it out before it fills up. The topic is “Beginning the Journey Toward Differentiated Classrooms”. The webinar yesterday, “Classroom Indicators of Giftedness”, was pretty good. It was definitely worth the money – free! I’m not sure whether the webinars will be worth their [...] I called the school psychologist yesterday to see if I could find out what achievement test she gave C on Tuesday and perhaps get an idea of how he did, but haven’t heard back from her. Along with that, I called to make sure that C’s 504 plan was renewed for the year and his bussing [...] C had his achievement testing today and it wasn’t at all what I expected. I figured he would be taking something like the group achievement test he had in kindergarten. This was the normal multiple-choice type test with a number 2 pencil, where the test today was an individual achievement test. The psychologist asked him most [...] C has his achievement testing tomorrow afternoon. I keep thinking about the poor timing of it, at the very end of the summer. Of course this is the result of the school district putting us off. Plus the whole thing is pretty ridiculous since he already had achievement testing this past spring. None of that matters [...] It seems like ever since C learned to talk, he’s been a stream of never ending questions. His default response to anything often was “why?” and would respond with “why?” to any answers given to the point where we would have to break down and tell him “Enough with all the questions!” He also went through [...] Our public school district finished C’s IQ testing this morning and asked that he come back next week for achievement testing. After that there are more tests once the reading specialists and guidance counselors return. It’s a bit frustrating that they insisted on retesting C rather than accepting his private testing, but luckily C doesn’t seem [...] Well, after a false start last week, C is set to start his district testing tomorrow morning. He’s healthy again, for the most part, thank goodness. I’m way more nervous about the testing than he is, which is good. I just want it over and done with. It seems like this process has been dragging on [...] I think it must have been a year ago that someone first recommended that I get C a journal. At the time he wrote very little, because he never had any formal handwriting practice. Since then he’s had a lot of practice with writing at kindergarten, though he hasn’t done much writing over the summer. We [...] |
